I often like things other people don't and vice versa. I also often can't define why I like something.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03182743312553270315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025185028400769912.post-37564064073664245942009-02-09T22:33:00.000+11:002009-02-09T22:33:00.000+11:00Ann, it confuses me why you like the second image ...Ann, it confuses me why you like the second image that I posted today instead of the first image.

To me the second image is boring. It does not show why he is so much taller than me: it implies that I am sitting on the ground. It gives absolutely no context whatsoever. And there is a shadow on his face from the cap.

Whereas the first image answers all those questions in a relatively humourous way. Does the first image not actually qualify as a portrait as we cannot see the face?Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09513648613788716017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025185028400769912.post-12180953011480686082009-02-09T16:11:00.000+11:002009-02-09T16:11:00.000+11:00Don't look at me, I'm still on the P, Portrait or ...Don't look at me, I'm still on the P, Portrait or Auto setting. Just because I know the theory doesn't mean I can use it. I even did a 2 day course when I got my first SLR about 5 years ago. Don't think I've ever used what I learnt and have forgotten most of it.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03182743312553270315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025185028400769912.post-25750006984255129112009-02-09T16:00:00.000+11:002009-02-09T16:00:00.000+11:00I can't cope with all the AV, Fstop stuff and let ...I can't cope with all the AV, Fstop stuff and let the camera do the thinking with a few basic settings from me. I always practice at home or in the laneway behind ... so that when I go out I am a little bit on top of it all and don't get so easily flustered ... that could quite possibly explain why I am not getting the blurring that I was half expecting ... and why they turn out darker that I was thinking they would ... double oops ...

just got my hearing aides ... everything is soooo loud ... especially this keyboard ...Juliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09513648613788716017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025185028400769912.post-1185001869481795432009-02-09T11:20:00.000+11:002009-02-09T11:20:00.000+11:00My understanding, with the SLR, is that AV (Apertu...My understanding, with the SLR, is that AV (Aperture priority) is where you set the aperture (F stop) and the camera sets the appropriate shutter speed. Tv is Shutter priority where you set the shutter speed and the camera sets the appropriate aperture. On Manual you set both, on Auto or P the camera sets both. What camera are you using now?

According to Peter on Av to blur the background you set the lowest F stop number for the lens you are using. I think that's what he said. I want to try this but haven't been out again with the SLR.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03182743312553270315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1025185028400769912.post-51268497490664022262009-02-09T10:26:00.000+11:002009-02-09T10:26:00.000+11:00Ummm ... With the focus I try and make sure that at least one of the focus points is on the eyes, half depress the shutter, then recompose the shot to what I want. The theory is that the face and especially the eyes will be in focus. Keep forgetting I can change the AWB.Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03182743312553270315noreply@blogger.com
