Ann

Just thought this was one that would lend itself to b&w - black and white dog, dark clothes etc. Possibly too much crop for clarity. What do you reckon. Not the I don't like the original by the way, just wanted to try this.

I love the crop.

It really improves the shot I think, I'm not sure about the B&W, perhaps it would work better if the mid-tones were lighter?

I'll have a bash too!

Well I've had a lot of fun with it!

The nicest result was to take your crop, change the midtones and add a diffuse glow, which gave it all a fairy tale sort of look, but I'm not ready to share that with the world, specially not after butchering someone else's pic! ;-)

The lighter skin tones changed it though.

Which brings me to the crop ...

The original photograph had as much space on the RHS as remains on the LHS. However, the crucial element - to me - in the image is the POTENTIAL for action from Wilfred: he is sprung ready to explode.

I have read that if you leave space in front of a moving figure the viewer is inclined to "see" the moving forward action more. If you have a face pointing to the left, then leave space on the left to force the viewer to wonder what the person is looking at.

I wondered how I could employ that with the loaded dog. I cropped it tightly to the RHS to give the impression that Wilfred was about to burst out of the frame.
