Is that a euphonium? Bit on the large size whatever it is ... my son often does that in photographs ... or worse ... irritates the daylight out of me. I was really impressed with all the bands that were playing ... some had to cycle around two or three times as there were simply not enough of them! And they were overwhelmingly young folk. Very heartening.

That's what I found interesting about the bands. Some went around several times and then on my way down to Quay I came across a band waiting to march (photo later in series). I asked how many times they had been round and they said they hadn't marched yet but had been waiting one and a half hours.

No idea what the big white things are. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to marching bands.

It may be a euphorium, ;-) after all he looks quit happy.

I think you'll find it's a sousaphone a type of tuba.

What in memory of John Phillip? I have never seen one of them before. It is very big and very enveloping.
