Yes, its a microphone. I still think the difference between env. portrait and peopled landscape is what the photographer calls it. There's no consistency.
Here's my definition. An environmental portrait is about the person with the environment around that person informing us more about them.
A peopled landscape is about the landscape with people in it informing us about the landscape ... perhaps to give scale, show its busyness or whatever.
There are of course things that fit somewhere in between.
