Ann 11/100 - Cathy and Mike

Canadians Cathy and Mike, from Edmonton, were in town for a few days before visiting their daughter in Queanbeyan and their son-in-law's family in Newcastle. They were looking forward to the kids taking them to the beach, although weren't sure where exactly the beach they were going to was. Happy with the head shot but not the sun, if I had thought, I should probably have faced them the other way and tried to use flash.

If he'd had a pitch fork in his hand, it could have been a new version of American Gothic!

I think the flash would have taken some of these shadows out as well, it would be worth mucking around with. I don't think it's a disaster from this angle at all, the shadow gives depth to the faces but flash may have softened it.

Your strangers are sensational, they don't work in shops or anything!

I am impressed with how many couples you are prepared to ask! Photographing two people, IMHO, is much more difficult. Many more restrictions on the type of image you can take.

Youse realise, of course, that we are all into double digits!!

Can't get the damn flash to fire when I want it to. Even on auto in situations when I think it will fire, it often doesn't. Will have to play more. I want to use the big camera. Am going to the Opera House Sunday evening so will take the Canon and see what I can find around the quay.

I find couple shots less confronting, so long as they look approachable, but it is difficult to get closer than just head and shoulders.

Take care going to the SOH with a backpak. They insist that you put it in the cloakroom. So be prepared for that and have a bumbag for your etcs ...

I wrote something similar on my post that goes to air lunch-time today. But I solved it this morning on the way to work. For me it helps to talk it out loud to me - or to the cats!
