Peter 012 - Steven

I didn't ask Steven if his name was spelled with a "v" so I hope I got it right.

He was selling drums at the markets, and we swapped tuning details for obscure folk instruments for a time (I think I've got my first clue as to why I'm finding it hard to approach women!). He was tuning a guitar-like object made from a biscuit tin while we yakked, and I could have taken a dozen ripper shots if I'd been concentrating.

Another person I'm glad I've met.

Really like this. He's got great character in his face, the laugh lines make it.

PS. How are you blurring out the background? I assume you are using an SLR on manual (which I've never tried but would like to).

It's my favourite so far (of my shots). I like the hint of a dreadlock on his forehead as well.

I really lucked in with the close shot, but I was forced into it anyway as I was squatting in a very narrow space.

Both posts today bring out the person so very well - and what two totally different people you have chosen.

I like the look of this guy around the eyes: shows an element of native cunnning and intelligence. He also seems very laid back but in a totally non-suave way!

I like close up shots like you have both posted today.

I like the jut of the jaw.

I rarely use my camera on full manual, but it's easy to change the aperture settings in "P" or "A" (aperture priority) modes, just open it as far as possible (the lowest number).

You should get a similar result using your little camera on "Portrait" mode.

My best portrait lens was "appropriated" by a miscreant Moroccan in Barcelona last year, and I haven't replaced it... yet. I should!

Well that just about makes this picture a total success then! That's pretty much him as I found him!

Take a star sticker from me!

Nice shot, and I'm glad you enjoyed the encounter. I think a photograph as an excuse for a nice chat is a good idea. Got some shots of a guy doing a painting beside the road last weekend and had a good chin wag as well.

When I was a country girl I used to chat to everybody but the city drilled that out of me very fast.
