Photographs like these don't seem to be so well thought of. However, had you turn him toward your lens so that the sun fell on just half his face: that would be regarded as artistic.
However, you are only up to 16. Don't you dare start getting arty-farty on us just yet, you whipper-snapper you!!
I'd say it would depend on what you were tying to convey. As an overall portrait, I think not but if you were emphasising his earring and went in close on that, it wouldn't matter, but then you would cut out a lot of the background, which I really like.
